Waldo Broodryk Portrait

Hi, I'm Waldo Broodryk

I serve the team at Webflow. I'm a web designer and lover of animating all things on the web. I enjoy writing about my thoughts on web design, going hiking, snowboarding, surfing, swimming, making YouTube videos, taking pictures of our doggo, and hanging out with friends and family.

Sometimes I share things on Twitter

This is likely the easiest place to get ahold of me. Just Tweet at me or send me a DM onΒ Twitter if you'd like to connect.

@joshuantaylor Async communication has come a long ways with tools like @cloudapp. We have so many mediums which we can communicate in, find what helps you to best express yourself and how to best communicate with one another to have the most fulfilling conversations and collaborative efforts.

@whale @joshuantaylor I too am a fan of mountains, but also enjoy the ocean πŸ™ˆ, this conversation (and your Twitter handle) just made me recall that memory πŸ˜‚πŸ³πŸ‹

October 20, 2019

@whale @joshuantaylor This one time in the 6th grade I wrote a paper about desert animals, and somehow we had "whales" on the list. It was a very interesting presentation and the validity of our paper was put into question after talking about desert whales πŸ™ˆ. The source: https://t.co/edjQKsoUiu

@bvlktech If you haven't had a dilated eye exam for a bit, then I'd recommend scheduling one for peace of mind (make sure to bring sunglasses or someone with if you don't feel comfortable driving afterwards as it takes a bit for the drops to wear off). Hoping for a clean bill of health πŸ™

October 20, 2019

@bvlktech Oh I hear you there, I'm super photo sensitive and always wear transition glasses or sunglasses if I'm in contacts. Optometrists use eye drops for dilating eyes, they're so important to check eye health (recommended around once every two years). I had my first one last year.

October 20, 2019

@bvlktech I'm not a doctor and I recommend seeing an optometrist for a dilated eye exam. πŸ’œ It's most likely pressure phosphenes. Anytime you press on the eye from the outside you can stimulate the rods and cones mechanically.

October 20, 2019

@bvlktech Retinal detachment is unlikely, but possible (hence the recommendation for an exam). Are you experiencing any other symptoms?

October 20, 2019

@alexmuench Please let me know what you find! I’ve spent over 10K hours lap swimming in my life and would love to find headphones that work while swimming. From my experience, they tend to fall off and get in the way of exercising.

October 20, 2019

@deezel That's so interesting! Thanks for sharing, Darin! How do you think that those conversations shape the way you think throughout the day? How do they each make you feel? How about conversations with other humans?

@narulakeshav I often forget that I was forged in moments of radically candid feedback from my parents. They celebrated the highs with me and I was highly motivated by praise from high performance. Those words of affirmation, and the few moments of being consoled are easy to forget.

October 19, 2019

@narulakeshav I was not an easy person to comfort when I failed to hit my own goals. I had to learn a lot about grace. I set rather audacious goals from a young age. Shared them with my parents, and they challenged me and helped keep me on track. https://t.co/94xYtKEiV3

October 19, 2019

@laurieontech The habit formation is incredible from the environmental change of introducing a pup into our livesπŸ’œπŸΎ

October 19, 2019

@pablostanley @RockyRoark @webflow It's possible with nth child styling. If you put the CSS in an embed on the canvas, the CSS styles will render in the Designer. I'd likely use Flexbox for that layout. I'd have to tinker around but am mostly out of pocket today πŸ™ˆ

October 19, 2019

@natacoops Love it! I’m so thankful that you get to have it done! Much deserved πŸ’œ I'm over here still struggling with how much longer I want to stay bearded. Most humans I've interacted with over the past ~3 years, only know bearded Waldo. πŸ™ˆ

October 19, 2019

@laurieontech Aww, it was a positive side for me. Gemma Lou saved me from some rough habits πŸ’œ (I'm recovering from 15 years of insomnia). She gets a little piece of egg each morning from me. So I get wake-up kisses and zoomies from Gemma in exchange πŸ˜‚πŸ’œ https://t.co/elVAoEpDT5

@TheOlmstead We’ve used spreadsheets (@rileyrichter made a really sweet designed one that I saw recently), I believe folks have used Coda, Notion, and custom configuration tools. I’ve definitely considered making a site template for it and forms + Zaps to post updates for it and such.

October 19, 2019

@taylordunham_ @RockyRoark @webflow Ooh, that's a fun one! You can accomplish this with multiple collections lists (you can have up to 20 collections lists per page). I'd add a switch field for "featured" and a number field for spot 1, 2, 3 etc. Then sort by newest first for each list. Or nth child custom code
